The MAGUS Pol 850 polarizing microscope is designed for transmitted and reflected light. Available research methods: polarization and brightfield. The microscope is used to study abiological, geological and anisotropic polymer objects, as well as opaque polished sections up to 15 mm thick with one polished side. The microscope is perfect for a wide range of professional tasks in medicine, forensic science, mineralogy, crystallography and petrography.
Digital camera
The professional scientific camera MAGUS CBF70 is designed for use with a microscope and 4x, 10x, 20x and 40x objectives. The device can take photographs, record videos, organize demonstrations, display images on an external screen and perform angular and linear measurements of study objects (the software must be calibrated for this function to work correctly). The camera is recommended for brightfield work.
The MAGUS CBF70 camera has five image resolution and frame rate modes, so you can easily find the one that best suits your needs: 5280x3954 px (17 fps), 3952x3952 px (17 fps), 2640x1976 px (56 fps), 1760x1316 px (67 fps) and 584x438 px (192 fps).
The high-resolution modes are ideal for photography, allowing you to create clear, vivid and highly detailed images. The higher frame-rate modes help record smooth, informative videos without skips or delays, capturing the smallest movements of an object or features of fast processes being observed.
To obtain the best image quality without distortion, it is recommended to use a 1x magnification adapter.
The camera uses a back-illuminated color SONY Exmor CMOS sensor measuring 4/3”. It produces a bright image even in low-light conditions. The sensor’s larger physical size helps rendered colors appear deeper and images clearer.
Optics
The microscope optics are infinity-corrected and free of internal stress. The image formed by the lens is true to life, free of reflections, high-contrast and detailed. The lens is installed in a revolving nosepiece with slots centered on the optical axis. There are five slots, with four objectives included in the kit; an additional objective can be installed to provide extra magnification within the microscope’s magnification range. The objectives are designed for use with specimens without cover slips.
The trinocular head allows a digital camera to be installed in the trinocular tube. The beam splitter ratio is 100:0 or 0:100, meaning all the light goes either to the camera or to the eyepiece tubes. The left eyepiece tube has a diopter adjustment ring, which is turned to compensate for the difference in vision between the eyes and obtain the clearest possible image of the specimen.
Illumination
30 W halogen lamps are used for transmitted and reflected light. Their brightness is sufficient to obtain a clearly readable image with every objective, and the “warm” emission spectrum is comfortable during prolonged use. Köhler illumination adjustment provides higher resolution and removes artifacts in the field of view and darkening at the edges. Light filters are used to fine-tune color reproduction when working with reflected light.
Polarization is available for both transmitted and reflected light. To begin observing in polarized light, an analyzer is introduced into the optical path. The relative positions of the analyzer and polarizer are then changed by rotating them, which also changes the polarization angle. The contrast of objects is enhanced using compensators installed in a special holder in the intermediate tube. The same mount also contains a Bertrand lens used for conoscopic examinations.
Stage and focusing mechanism
The microscope has a rotatable stage: rotating it changes how the specimen refracts light under polarized illumination. The stage has a scale for determining the angle of rotation with precision up to 0.1°. The stage can be centered on the microscope’s optical axis to obtain the brightest and clearest image.
The coarse and fine focus knobs are located at the bottom of the stand, allowing the user to adopt a relaxed position with their hands on the table. Coarse tension is adjustable, and a coarse focus lock is also provided. Fine focusing ensures smooth movement of the specimen.
