The MAGUS Metal D600 BD metallurgical digital microscope is designed for studying objects in reflected light using brightfield, darkfield, and polarization microscopy techniques. The microscope is used to examine metal and semiconductor samples, as well as other polished, flat samples with high reflectivity. The transmitted-light technique allows examination of translucent samples such as thin films and particles trapped on filters. The microscope can be used in mechanical and metallurgical engineering, engineering and quality-control laboratories, and polytechnic institutes.
Digital camera
The MAGUS CLM30 digital camera is designed for darkfield microscopy and fluorescence. The camera is equipped with an 8.3 MP sensor and produces realistic images at a resolution of 3840x2160 px. It is recommended for use with 4x, 10x, 20x, and 40x objectives. When using low-magnification objectives, the camera allows the user to see finer details.
Videos are recorded at 45 fps or 70 fps, depending on the resolution: videos play smoothly, with gentle, subtle transitions between frames. Sample movement is shown in real time, without delays. The camera makes it easier to observe moving objects and is suitable for academic demonstrations.
The camera is equipped with a USB 3.0 interface. The data transfer rate is 10 times faster than that of USB 2.0 cameras. This high-speed camera is recommended for professional laboratories, research, or university teaching.
Optics
The trinocular head is equipped with a trinocular tube for mounting a digital camera. The beam splitter directs light to the camera in two positions: 100:0 and 0:100. The light beam reaches either the eyepiece or the trinocular tube. Diopter adjustment ring on the left eyepiece.
The microscope's magnification in the basic configuration is 50–400x. Additional objectives and eyepieces can extend the magnification range. The microscope uses plan achromatic objectives with a long working distance, suitable for brightfield and darkfield microscopy techniques. The revolving nosepiece has five slots for mounting objectives. Four objectives are included and one is optional. The nosepiece faces inward so the user can see which objective is in the optical path.
Illumination
The illumination uses warm-light halogen lamps that do not strain the eyes during prolonged observation. The transmitted-light illuminator has a power of 30 W and the reflected-light illuminator 50 W, ensuring comfortable observation using darkfield microscopy.
The reflected-light illumination system includes a darkfield device, a polarization device, a centering field and aperture diaphragms for the Köhler illumination method, and colored filters. The light source can also be centered.
The transmitted-light illumination system includes a condenser with a swing-out lens for low-magnification objectives, an aperture diaphragm, and a field diaphragm for the Köhler method.
Stage and focusing mechanism
The sample moves along both axes together with the stage. The height of the sample being examined must not exceed 20 mm. The stage has a transparent glass plate for observing translucent samples.
Focusing is adjusted using coarse- and fine-focus knobs located on both sides of the lower part of the microscope, allowing the observer to rest their hands on the table rather than keeping them raised. The coarse-focus mechanism has a locking knob on the right and a tension adjustment knob on the left.
Accessories
The range of accessories compatible with the MAGUS Metal 600 BD microscope includes long-working-distance objectives for darkfield and brightfield observations, eyepieces, calibration slides, and digital cameras.
Key microscope features:
- Observation of flat, opaque, polished samples up to 20 mm in reflected light using darkfield, brightfield, and polarization microscopy techniques
- Observation of translucent samples in transmitted light
- Trinocular tube for mounting a digital camera and a beam splitter with two positions (100:0 and 0:100)
- Plan achromatic objectives with a long working distance. The abbreviation BD means that they are suitable for darkfield and brightfield techniques
- Transmitted-light illuminator with a 30 W halogen lamp and reflected-light illuminator with a 50 W halogen lamp, enabling comfortable darkfield microscopy
- Köhler illumination (reflected light) with an option to center the light source, aperture and field diaphragms, and colored filters
- Köhler illumination (transmitted light) with a centering, height-adjustable Abbe condenser and swing-out condenser lenses for low-magnification objectives
- A wide range of fully compatible eyepieces and objectives
Key camera features:
- For darkfield microscopy and fluorescence with 4x, 10x, 20x, and 40x objectives
- 8.3 MP resolution: when observing with low-magnification objectives, the camera allows the user to see finer details
- 45 fps and 70 fps, respectively at resolutions of 3840x2160 pixels and 1920x1080 pixels, for observing samples with moving features, recording videos, and moving the specimen without stuttering or delays
- The Peltier cell lowers the sensor temperature during prolonged operation and eliminates thermal noise, allowing a long shutter speed to be used when taking photographs.
- The back-illuminated SONY Exmor color CMOS sensor provides images with low noise and high light sensitivity, even in low-light conditions. It can produce sharper, brighter images with saturated colors.
- USB 3.0 interface for fast, smooth data transfer
- Software for recording and editing photos and videos, external display functions, and linear and angular measurements
