The Ethicon Vicryl Rapid Suture is a sterile, absorbable surgical suture designed to perform similar to collagen sutures. Made from polyglactin 910, a copolymer of glycolic acid (90%) and lactic acid (10%), it is braided and coated to ensure rapid absorption and temporary support to the wound.

This suture is ideal for soft tissue approximation when short-term support is needed, usually between 7 and 10 days. It is not suitable for ligament surgery, nor for ophthalmic, cardiovascular or neurological surgery. Absorption occurs via hydrolysis, starting with a loss of tensile strength followed by loss of mass.
