The sterile, absorbable Vicryl Rapid surgical suture is designed to offer performance similar to collagen sutures. Made of polyglactin 910, it consists of a copolymer of glycolic acid (90%) and lactic acid (10%). This synthetic suture is braided and coated to provide temporary support to soft tissues.
Vicryl Rapid sutures are ideal for approximating soft tissues where short-term support (7-10 days) and rapid absorption are required. They are not suitable for procedures involving ligaments, ophthalmic, cardiovascular or neurological surgery. Absorption occurs through hydrolysis, beginning with loss of tensile strength, followed by loss of mass.
