The Ethicon Vicryl Rapid Suture is a sterile, absorbable, braided, and coated surgical suture composed of polyglactin 910, a copolymer of glycolic acid (90%), and lactic acid (10%). Designed to emulate the performance of collagen sutures, it is ideal for soft tissue approximation where temporary wound support is required.

Vicryl Rapid sutures are particularly suitable when rapid absorption is preferred, such as in the case of wounds that need support for a short period (7-10 days). They are not suitable for ligament surgery, ophthalmic, cardiovascular or neurological surgery. Absorption occurs by hydrolysis, starting with loss of tensile strength followed by loss of mass.
