MAGUS Bio 260T is a microscope for everyday use in the laboratory, for scientific research or training. It works with thin, transparent and translucent specimens using the bright-field method. Additional components can be installed on the device to expand its functionality and use the dark-field, phase-contrast, polarized-light and fluorescence methods.
The model is equipped with a coded nosepiece that can hold up to five objectives. The “smart” illumination turns on automatically when the nosepiece is rotated and is adapted to the settings of each objective. Thanks to this feature, no time is wasted adjusting the light, which is very important during training or when you need to change magnification frequently.
The microscope has a trinocular head that uses an infinity-corrected optical system. The interpupillary distance is adjustable. The position is adjusted by rotating the tubes up to 360°. A digital camera is installed in a trinocular tube. The vertical tube provides a magnification of 0,55x in this microscope model and comes with a 1x C-mount adapter. The camera's final output magnification is 0,55x. When selecting a camera and calculating the resolution and sensor size, use the final magnification factor of 0,55x. Light is distributed to the camera and eyepieces at a ratio of 50/50 (fixed ratio). The microscope kit includes basic 10x eyepieces with a field of view of 22 mm and a diopter adjustment mechanism. No adjustment is made to the tubes. Users who wear glasses can use the included rubber eyecups to protect the lenses from abrasion and scratches.
The nosepiece for 5 objectives is equipped with an automatic illumination control system. When changing magnification, the user may notice significant fluctuations in the light level in the eyepiece: objectives with different magnifications transmit light in different ways. Smart illumination allows the light level to be set once for specific objectives; then, when the nosepiece is rotated, the light is adjusted automatically. The microscope kit includes 4 objectives; the user can place an objective in the fifth slot as needed. The parfocal distance is 60 mm. The slot above the nosepiece is used to install the analyzer; when the analyzer is not installed, the slot is closed with a plug.
The specimen stage has a belt-driven mechanism: the specimen moves slowly and continuously. There is no positioning along the X-axis, making microscope use more ergonomic and comfortable. The specimen holder is secured with two screws, which can be removed when necessary. Another practical detail is the stage's long control handle. The microscope can be used with your hands resting on the table, without straining your arms or body.
The condenser can be adjusted to the desired position, both vertically and along the optical axis (using a dovetail mount). The iris diaphragm is adjusted with a ring: it has a mark, and the objective magnification indicators are visible on the condenser body. For contrast imaging, the mark is set to match the installed objective. The condenser can be fitted with a dark-field or phase-contrast slider; a special slot is provided for this.
The microscope is focused using coaxial coarse and fine adjustment knobs. Coarse focusing is performed with the knob on the left side. Fine-focusing knobs are located on both sides; the one on the right has special grooves for the fingers. An additional convenience is the travel adjustment ring, which allows the tension of the coarse-focus travel to be adjusted easily. The knobs and ring are located at the bottom of the stand and can be operated with your hands resting comfortably on the table.
The microscope illumination is provided by a 3 W LED mounted in a transmitted-light illuminator. The illumination temperature remains stable even when brightness changes. Optional research methods for this microscope include Köhler illumination. This type of illumination makes it possible to illuminate the entire specimen uniformly, while elements such as dust or the image of the light source are not visible through the eyepiece or digital camera.
Operating parameters can be viewed and adjusted using the integrated display on the base of the microscope. The display indicates the magnification of the objective in use, illumination settings, operating mode and automatic shutdown time.
Additional components are available to expand the device's functionality. A set of eyepieces can increase the magnification range. To use other methods with specimens that cannot be observed using the bright-field method, the microscope must be equipped with a phase-contrast device, a dark-field slider or a polarization device. A digital camera can help capture study results in photos or videos, or display images on a screen. Objects can be measured using a calibration slide and an eyepiece with a graduated scale or a digital camera.
