Optics
The trinocular head consists of two optical tubes for observation and a trinocular tube for mounting a digital camera (not included). For comfortable extended observation, the eyepiece tubes can be adjusted by rotating them through 360° to suit the observer's height. They are inclined at 30°.
The five-position nosepiece is inward-facing, allowing the user to see which objective is in the optical path. It is equipped with infinity-corrected plan achromatic objectives: three for brightfield and one for fluorescence. Once all the objectives are mounted on the nosepiece, one position remains available. It is used to adjust the position of the illuminator for reflected-light observations. An optional objective can also be installed to achieve higher magnification.
Illumination
Reflected light: five LEDs rated at 5 W. Each LED corresponds to one of four specific bands: blue (B), green (G), violet (V) and ultraviolet (UV). Turn the ring to select an LED. LED illumination reaches maximum brightness quickly and switches off quickly, making it easy to switch between brightfield and fluorescence. The LEDs do not overheat, require no heat sink and have a service life of 50000 hours before they need to be replaced. LED fluorescence is a safe, easy-to-maintain microscopy technique and is therefore recommended for schools and universities.
Transmitted light is produced by a 3 W LED. The LED service life is 50000 hours. The illumination system also includes a condenser. The condenser has a slot for a darkfield or phase-contrast slider. The slider makes it quick and easy to switch between microscopy techniques without changing the condenser.
Köhler illumination can be set for both transmitted and reflected light. The specimen appears sharp and free of image artifacts. The edges do not darken, and each objective achieves maximum resolution.
Stage and focusing mechanism
The microscope stage is equipped with a removable specimen holder for manual scanning of the specimen. The stage has no rack-and-pinion positioning mechanism, so it requires less workspace. A black plate can be installed on the stage to eliminate unwanted light from the transmitted-light source when observing in reflected light.
The coaxial fine-focus (micrometer) and coarse-focus (macrometer) knobs are located on both sides at the base of the microscope. The coarse-focus mechanism has a locking and tension adjustment knob.
