The slider enables the dark-field technique on microscopes in the MAGUS Bio 260 series. Dark-field microscopy is used to obtain images of unstained translucent specimens that do not absorb light well and are invisible in bright-field microscopy. The slider is a plate with two circular apertures. One aperture is open for bright-field microscopy. The second is covered by a dark-field diaphragm. The slider is inserted into the slot in the Abbe condenser and then used instead of a dry dark-field condenser when working with objectives with an N.A. of up to 0.9. The slider makes it easy to switch between observation techniques.

To obtain a high-contrast image of the specimen using the dark-field technique, it is recommended to use a 0.17 mm thick coverslip and a 1.2 mm thick slide.
