This eyepiece is equipped with a graduated scale positioned in the field diaphragm plane for measuring specimens in millimeters or microns. The scale division is 0.1 mm. It fits into an optical tube with a 30 mm barrel in place of a standard 10x magnification eyepiece. When changing the objective, the graduated scale must be recalibrated. To do this, a calibration slide (a micrometer object) with a graduated scale of 0.01 mm is required. The slide is placed on the microscope stage, and the eyepiece is rotated in the optical tube until the eyepiece scale and the slide scale are parallel.

In addition, the value of the eyepiece scale division is crucial for each objective. For low-magnification objectives, count the number of eyepiece scale divisions that fall within the calibration slide scale. For medium- and high-magnification objectives, do the opposite: count how many slide scale divisions fall within the eyepiece scale.

The division value (E) is therefore calculated using the formula:E=TL/A, where: T is the value of one division on the slide micrometer scale (0.01 mm); L is the number of divisions on the slide scale; A is the number of divisions on the eyepiece scale.

To calculate the actual linear dimension of a specimen, measure its length on the eyepiece scale, then multiply this value by the E factor calculated for the objective in use.
