Ethicon Perma-Hand Non-Absorbable Natural Silk Sutures are ideal for vessel and soft tissue sutures and ligatures, including applications in cardiovascular, plastic, and ophthalmic surgery. Silk can cause an initial inflammatory reaction in the tissue, followed by gradual encapsulation by the connective tissue fibers. Although non-absorbable, silk degrades in vivo, resulting in a progressive loss of tensile strength over time. Therefore, it is not recommended in situations that require permanent tensile strength.

The sutures undergo a Perma-Hand dewaxing process and are stained black with a special wax mixture. This unique process ensures optimal purification and uniform caliber, giving the thread high strength and superior handling compared to other suture materials.
