Ethicon's Ethilon suture is a sterile, non-absorbable monofilament made from Nylon 6 and Nylon 6.6 aliphatic polymers, which is colored black for optimal visibility. It is indicated for soft tissue approximation and ligation, including cardiovascular, ophthalmic and neurological surgery.

Ethilon causes a minimal inflammatory reaction, followed by gradual encapsulation in fibrous connective tissues. As nylon is non-absorbable, a gradual loss of tensile strength may occur over time due to hydrolysis in vivo. Therefore, Ethilon is not recommended when prolonged strength is required.
