ETHILON - sterile, non-absorbable monofilament sutures

Ethicon Ethilon suture is a non-absorbable, monofilament suture composed of the long-chain aliphatic polymers Nylon 6 and Nylon 6,6; colored black for better visibility.
Ethilon is indicated for the approximation and/or ligation of soft tissue, including use in cardiovascular, ophthalmic, and neurological surgery.

Ethilon causes a minimal inflammatory reaction in the tissues, followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture in fibrous connective tissue. Because nylon is not an absorbable material, progressive hydrolysis of nylon in vivo may result in a gradual loss of tensile strength over time.

Due to the gradual loss of tensile strength that may occur over extended periods of time in vivo, Ethilon should not be used where there is a prolonged need for strength.
