Description
ASKINA HEEL
Askina Heel is a non-adhesive, heel-shaped, sterile hydrocellular dressing consisting of a polyurethane foam with high absorption capacity, in contact with the wound and an outer layer consisting of a polyurethane film, permeable to vapor and resistant to water and bacteria.

The choice of the elements of the two layers allows to obtain:
· Injury protection from shear forces
· Reduction of external pressure
· Protection of both malleolus
· Optimal exudate management
· Evaporation of excess moisture
· Free gas permeability between the lesion and the external environment
· Impermeability to liquids and bacteria
· Easy removal to check the condition of the lesion

Askina Heel is indicated for the management of moderately to heavily exuding injuries with partial or total thickness of the heel such as:
• Pressure ulcers from stage I to IV
• Incsurgical isions
• Burns of I and II degree
Bilaminar structure:
1) Layer in contact with the lesion:
Hydrophilic absorbent structure made of polyurethane foam. The particular microalveolar structure guarantees a high absorption capacity and a high capacity to retain exudate even under compression. The absorption of the exudate takes place in a vertical direction so as to avoid its permanence on the wound bed. This also reduces the possible extent of lateral absorption, towards the edges of the lesion, so as to minimize the risk of maceration of the periwound skin. In this way, the dressing, despite having a high absorption capacity, tends to return the absorbed liquid when it is subjected to "sponge effect" pressure. The polyurethane foam has a significant thickness that guarantees high protection of the wound bed. In addition, the particular structure of the polyurethane foam layer prevents any proliferation of granulation tissue inside, making the removal of the dressing painless and atraumatic and promoting proper healing of the bottom of the wound.

2) Outer layer
Polyurethane film impermeable to liquids and bacteria and gas-permeable. The dressing is equipped with a special foam tape that facilitates its positioning and keeps it in place. After applying the dressing, the appropriate polyurethane foam tape is placed, using two Velcro supports, adjusting the level of tension. The dressing can be easily removed to check the condition of the wound. If you prefer to use a secondary dressing, Askina Heel can be placed without the use of the fixation tape. The absence of an adhesive edge guarantees full respect for the periwound skin and in particular the malleolar skin. The large contact surface of the dressing allows effective protection of both malleolus.
