The objective is installed on a polarizing microscope and operates under transmitted polarized light. It features optics that create neither distortions nor internal deformations; consequently, the lenses do not affect the observation results.

The plan achromatic objective eliminates optical aberrations: chromatic aberration for red and blue, and spherical aberration for green. These types of objectives are characterized by field curvature corrected to 90%. The image is displayed equally in the center and at the periphery of the field of view; therefore, the objective is suitable for digital cameras (to obtain images with a wide field of view) and wide-field eyepieces with a field of view of 22 mm.

The MAGUS SF5 objective is designed for an infinity-corrected optical system. The parfocal distance is 45 mm. The sample must be covered with a 0.17 mm cover slip.

The possible magnification of a microscope fitted with a 5x objective ranges from 60x to 120x, depending on the eyepiece magnification. Eyepieces from 10x to 25x are recommended. Higher magnification will not provide new data, and magnification below 60x will not allow the objective to be examined in detail.
