MONOCRYL - Sterile absorbable surgical suture
Ethicon Monocryl Sutures (poliglecaprone 25) are absorbable synthetic monofilament sutures composed of a copolymer made by synthesis of glycolide (75%) and epsilon caprolactone (25%).
Ethicon Monocryl sutures are indicated for sutures and ligations of vessels and soft tissues; they are not particularly suitable for cardiovascular and neurological surgery, microsurgery and ophthalmic surgery.
Due to its absorbability characteristics, this type of suture should not be used where a prolonged juxtaposition of the tissues is required, especially under tension (for example the fascia).
Through hydrolysis there is a progressive loss of tensile strength with eventual absorption of the Monocryl suture. The sorption process begins with the loss of tensile strength followed by a decrease in mass.
Complete absorption in 91-119 days
Monocryl sutures are indicated in the treatment of soft tissue approximation and/or ligation but never in vascular, neurological, ophthalmic and microsurgery surgery.
