Ethicon's Ethilon suture is a sterile, non-absorbable monofilament made from aliphatic Nylon 6 and Nylon 6,6 polymers, colored black for increased visibility. It is indicated for soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including cardiovascular, ophthalmic, and neurological surgery.

Ethilon causes a minimal inflammatory reaction in tissues, followed by encapsulation in fibrous connective tissues. Because nylon is non-absorbable, in vivo hydrolysis can lead to a gradual loss of tensile strength over time. Ethilon is not recommended for use when prolonged strength is required.
