ETHILON - sterile, non-absorbable monofilament sutures

Ethicon Ethilon is a non-absorbable monofilament suture composed of the long-chain aliphatic polymers Nylon 6 and Nylon 6.6; black-colored for improved visibility. 
Ethilon is indicated for approximation and/or ligation of soft tissues, including use in cardiovascular, ophthalmic and neurological surgery.

Ethilon causes a minimal inflammatory reaction in the tissues, followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture in fibrous connective tissues. Since nylon is not an absorbable material, progressive hydrolysis of nylon in vivo may result in a gradual loss of tensile strength over time.

Due to the gradual loss of tensile strength that may occur over long periods of time in vivo, Ethilon must not be used where prolonged strength is required.
