Ethicon's Ethilon suture is a sterile, non-absorbable monofilament suture, made from aliphatic Nylon 6 and Nylon 6.6 polymers, stained black for optimal visibility. It is indicated for soft tissue approximation and ligation, including application in cardiovascular, ophthalmic and neurological surgery.

Ethilon causes a minimal inflammatory reaction in tissues, followed by gradual encapsulation in fibrous connective tissues. As a non-absorbable material, nylon can undergo hydrolysis in vivo, leading to a gradual loss of tensile strength over time. Therefore, Ethilon is not recommended when prolonged strength is required.
