LH Benzalcolferri is a ready-to-use hydroalcoholic solution based on benzalkonium chloride, supplemented with an anticorrosive agent, indicated for the disinfection and preservation of invasive and non-invasive medical devices.

Areas of use:
Hydroalcoholic solution based on benzalkonium chloride for the disinfection and preservation of surgical instruments, invasive and non-invasive medical devices, and biomedical equipment. The solution has bactericidal, yeasticidal, fungicidal and virucidal (enveloped viruses) activity with a contact time of 10 minutes. The product is also active against fungal spores. To ensure mycobactericidal activity, the contact time may be extended to 60 minutes.

Instructions for use:
Use undiluted, as supplied, for the disinfection and preservation of medical devices in general:
- For disinfection: immerse the medical devices in the solution for 10 minutes after washing and drying them. Remove them using aseptic technique and wash them with sterile water.
- For preservation: leave the devices immersed in the solution until their next use, after washing and drying them, for a maximum period of 24 hours. For use, remove the device using aseptic technique and rinse it with sterile water.
Keep the container holding the solution closed.

Mechanism of action:
Quaternary ammonium salts act on proteins, causing their denaturation; they intervene in metabolic reactions by acting on enzymes at the cytoplasmic membrane level; and they act on cell permeability: benzalkonium chloride is absorbed onto the outer layers of the cytoplasmic membrane, where it exerts a lytic action. Cell destruction results from bonds formed between the quaternary compound and the lower-molecular-weight cytoplasmic constituents.
The action of ethyl alcohol, on the other hand, is attributable to its ability to denature the proteins of the microbial cytoplasmic membrane.
