The gearless DuraShock technology uses a single helical spring to directly convert the vertical movement of the pinion gear into the rotary movement of the slider without the aid of multi-step gears.

By creating a gearless system, Welch Allyn created a pressure gauge with fewer moving parts, impact-resistant, and lighter than traditional pressure gauges.

Until now, accidental dropping of the sphygmomanometer required it to be recalibrated or replaced.
