The BF214 measures body fat percentage using the bioelectrical impedance (BI) method. Muscles, blood vessels and bones are organic tissues that have a high water content, a good conductor of electricity. In contrast, body fat (adipose tissue) has poor electrical conductivity. The BF214 sends an extremely weak electrical current (less than 500 μA at a frequency of 50 kHz) through the body to calculate the amount of fat tissue. This weak electrical current is not felt during the operation of the BF214. The body composition meter uses electrical impedance, combined with information about your height, weight, age, and gender, to obtain a result based on OMRON's body composition model.
