Mechanism of action
In water, sodium hypochlorite dissociates into sodium hydroxide and hypochlorous acid, according to the following reaction:
NaOCl + H2O = NaOH (sodium hydroxide) + HOCl (hypochlorous acid)
Hypochlorous acid is the active part, the main responsible for the disinfectant activity, the so-called ACTIVE OR AVAILABLE CHLORINE.
Hypochlorous acid is the main responsible for the disinfectant action, the reason is attributable to its molecular structure, extremely small, without electrical charge and completely similar to that of water. By virtue of this molecular structure, hypochlorous acid easily penetrates through the cell membrane of the bacterial cell, thus becoming an agent with high microbial activity.
In water, hypochlorous acid dissociates according to the following reaction:
HOCl -> H+ + OClChlorinated compounds in aqueous solution give rise to hypochlorous acid (HOCl), which has a high oxidizing power and is able to damage microbial cells, and hypochlorous ion (OCl), which originate from each other depending on the pH of the solution. The mechanism of action is mainly related to the oxidation of cellular protoplasmic components and enzymatic systems that regulate the energy metabolism of microorganisms.
The results obtained support the disinfectant activity of the preparation to be used as it is as a ready-to-use product, against:
- Gram+ and Gram- bacteria
-Fungi
-Virus
