MAGUS MES10 10х/22 mm Eyepiece with Graduated Scale (D 30 mm)

This eyepiece is equipped with a graduated scale positioned in the plane of the field diaphragm for measuring samples in millimeters or microns. The scale division is 0.1 mm. It is housed in an optical tube with a 30 mm barrel instead of a classic eyepiece with 10x magnification. When changing lenses, you have to recalibrate the scale. To do this, you need a calibration slide (a micrometer object) with a 0.01 mm scale. The slide is placed on the microscope stage and the eyepiece is rotated in the optical tube until the eyepiece scale and slide scale become parallel.

In addition, the value of the eyepiece's scale division is decisive for each objective. For low-magnification objectives, you must count the number of divisions of the eyepiece scale that are included in the calibration slide scale. For medium and high magnification objectives, however, the opposite must be done: you have to count how many divisions of the slide scale are included in the eyepiece scale.

Then, the value of the division (E) is calculated according to the formula: E=TL/A, where: T – is the value of the division of the micrometer scale of the slide (0.01 mm) L – is the number of divisions of the slide scale A – is the number of divisions of the eyepiece scale.

To calculate the actual linear size of a sample, therefore, the length of the sample in the eyepiece scale must be measured and then multiplied by the E factor calculated according to the objective in use.
