The examination of dyschromatopsia requires a high level of sensitivity and specificity.

This series of plates can detect color blindness in people who cannot read, as well as abnormalities in color perception from the earliest age.
The plates use simple geometric shapes, since the person being examined may be unable to understand complicated shapes.

The test provides a rapid and accurate assessment of any congenital dyschromatopsia.

In most cases, the abnormality in color perception consists of an inability to distinguish red from green, which may be of two types:
- protan, absolute (protanopia) or partial (protanomaly)
- deutan, absolute (deuteranopia) or partial (deuteranomaly)
