ISHIHARA PLATES
Book of 10 plates - with figures
The examination for color vision deficiency requires a high level of sensitivity and specificity.
This series of plates can detect color blindness in people who cannot read and abnormalities in color perception from a very young age.
The plates are designed with simple geometric shapes, since the person being examined may not be able to understand complicated shapes.
The test provides a rapid and accurate assessment of any congenital color vision deficiencies.
In most cases, the abnormality in color perception consists of an inability to distinguish red from green, and may be of two types:
- protan, absolute (protanopia) or partial (protanomaly)
- deutan, absolute (deuteranopia) or partial (deuteranomaly)
