LYOPLANT® is a pure type I bovine pericardial collagen membrane, known for its low propensity to provoke immunological reactions. To avoid the potential risk of BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy) transmission, the following preventive measures are adopted:
- The pericardium used comes from New Zealand (BSE-free country)
- The pericardium is still treated with caustic soda solution

The special cryolidization process ensures the elimination
of all non-collagenous substances. LYOPLANT® is colonized by endogenous connective tissue cells, resulting in revitalization: the loosely fibrous structure and the thickness of the material (= 0.83 mm) are important elements in this respect. Colonization by connective tissue cells begins after a few days and complete revitalization occurs within 1-3 months.
