CANKER SORES: AN ANNOYING PROBLEM
Aphthous ulcers are the most common lesions of the oral mucosa and in 80% of cases the first canker sores appear before the age of 30.

The spread of this problem can affect up to 60%* of the population. It is estimated that in a fifth of cases the episodes are frequent and repeated over the years.

PREDISPOSING FACTORS

Nutritional deficiencies:
vitamin B12, folic acid and iron.

General disorders:
among the most frequent: diabetes, cyclic neutropenia, celiac disease and some intestinal diseases.

Psychological conditions:
stress, anxiety, depression

Trauma to the mucous membranes
caused by medical maneuvers, accidental bites, burning food or drink, or traumatic brushing.

Genetic family history:
Canker sores occur more frequently in households whose members suffer from these manifestations.

Allergies and intolerances
allergic syndromes triggered by drugs, intolerance to particular foods or drinks.

The lesions regress spontaneously but it is very important to promote their healing and counteract the symptoms that can be annoying and persistent. Spontaneous or phonation pain and burning. Swelling and pain in nearby lymph nodes. Increased salivation. Difficulty and pain when chewing with possible loss of appetite. Difficulty and pain in oral hygiene maneuvers. Diagnosis is based primarily on clinical appearance and medical history.
