CANKER SORES: AN ANNOYING PROBLEM
Aphthous ulcers are the most common lesions of the oral mucosa, and in 80% of cases, the first canker sore appears before the age of 30.

This problem can affect up to 60%* of the population. It is estimated that in one fifth of cases, episodes are frequent and recur over the years.

PREDISPOSING FACTORS

Nutritional deficiencies:
vitamin B12, folic acid and iron.

Systemic conditions:
among the most common: diabetes, cyclic neutropenia, celiac disease and some intestinal conditions.

Psychological conditions:
stress, anxiety, depression

Mucosal trauma
caused by medical procedures, accidental bites, scalding foods or drinks, or traumatic brushing.

Genetic predisposition:
canker sores occur more frequently in families whose members suffer from these manifestations.

Allergies and intolerances
allergic reactions triggered by medicines, intolerance to particular foods or drinks.

The lesions regress spontaneously, but it is very important to promote healing and counter symptoms that can be bothersome and persistent.
