These polarization devices are used for observations in polarized light. They comprise a rotatable polarizer (90° of rotation) positioned on the collector and an analyzer installed in a slot above the nosepiece. The illumination intensity depends on the relative positioning of the two devices. When they are perpendicular to each other, the specimen is completely darkened.
