Prontosan Wound Gel by B. Braun is a gel for cleansing chronic wounds based on Polihexanide (PHMB) and Propyl-Betaine which helps reduce the formation of bacterial biofilm by disaggregating the mucopolysaccharide matrix synthesised by the bacterial colonies present on the wound bed.

The density of the gel formulation allows for a reasonable stability in the wound bed and helps maintain the right moist environment.

- It promotes the creation of the right humid environment and helps maintain it over time
- Quickly and effectively cleanses the lesion
- Controls the formation of unpleasant odors

Prontosan Wound Gel is particularly indicated in case of burns as it helps to keep bacterial colonization at low levels, keeps the wound hydrated and minimizes trauma when changing the dressing, considerably reducing pain and the consequent need for supportive pain therapy.

The activity of Prontosan Wound Gel is determined by the characteristics of several components:
- The surfactant contained helps to disaggregate the bacterial biofilm and cleanse the lesion
- Hydroxyethyl cellulose provides the right viscosity to keep the product adhered to the wound bed
- Glycerol helps maintain a moist environment by hydrating the lesion
- Polyaminopropyl-biguanide allows the stability of the solution for 8 weeks after opening the bottle

For cleansing, hydrating and disinfecting:
- Acute infected and non-infected injuries: Traumatic injuries such as lacerations, abrasions, or cuts (if suturing is indicated, it should be applied after surgery)
- Chronic infected and non-infected wounds (especially loose and difficult to access wounds) including arterial and venous ulcers, diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers
- Post-surgical injuries
- Thermal, chemical and post-radiotherapy burns (1st and 2nd degree burns)
- Fistula

Composition per 100 gr.:
- Polyaminopropyl biguanide (Polyhesanide) (at 20% weight by weight) at 0.1%: 0.50 gr.
- Undecylene-amidopropylbetaine (at 30% weight by weight) at 0.1%: 0.35 gr.
- Hydroxyethyl cellulose: 1.80 gr.
- Glycerol (99%): 8.60 gr.
- Purified water: 88.75 gr.
