Ethicon Perma-Hand Non-Absorbable Natural Silk Sutures are ideal for sutures and ligatures of vessels and soft tissues, including cardiovascular, plastic and ophthalmic surgeries.

Silk can cause an acute inflammatory reaction in the tissues, followed by a gradual encapsulation of the suture by the connective tissue fibers. Despite being non-absorbable, silk fibers degrade in vivo with a progressive loss of tensile strength over time. Therefore, they are not recommended where permanent tensile strength is needed.

The sutures undergo a Perma-Hand dewaxing process and are colored black with a special wax mixture. This unique process ensures uniform caliber and optimal purification, improving the strength and handling of the thread compared to other suture materials.
