Indicated for the dietary treatment of subjects suffering from:
- Cystic fibrosis
- Osteogenesis Imperfecta
- Ehlers-Danlos syndrome
- Deficiency rickets

For example, its ability to influence respiratory function, immunological processes, and glycidic metabolism is important in cystic fibrosis. In particular, a correlation between low levels of vitamin D and respiratory disease has been highlighted, high levels of vitamin D are in fact associated with better lung function and a lower incidence of infectious exacerbations.

Vitamin D also seems to be able to reduce inflammatory cytokines and inhibit oxidative stress. All these beneficial actions make it essential for CF subjects to maintain an adequate blood level of vitamin D. However, a serious vitamin D deficiency has been shown in subjects with cystic fibrosis even in those who regularly take polyvitamins. A blood concentration of vitamin D of 30 ng/ml is considered adequate and this level is the target that the guidelines suggest to achieve and maintain with dietary supplementation. In many patients, the weekly administration of very high doses of vitamin D has proved inadequate due to the serious deficits in intestinal absorption of this vitamin, so it is preferable to administer lower doses, but with close frequency.
