The MAGUS Bio DH260 microscope is a microscope for everyday use, designed in its basic configuration to work with biological samples in transmitted light using the brightfield method. Equipping the device with additional components will allow research in fluorescent or polarized light, as well as the use of the darkfield or phase-contrast method. The microscope features a binocular head with an integrated camera and a coded nosepiece that maintains the user-selected illumination intensity when magnification is changed. It also features an LCD screen that displays the microscope's operating parameters.
The head with two eyepiece tubes is equipped with a digital camera. The eyepiece tubes are designed for infinity-corrected optics. The microscope kit includes 10x/22 mm eyepieces, which feature diopter adjustment and long eye relief for use while wearing glasses. Rubber eyecups are fitted to the eyepieces to protect the lenses from rubbing and scratches.
The integrated digital camera with a 8 MP sensor produces images with 4K resolution (3840x2160 px). The high resolution allows the sample to be studied in detail. The camera is most effective when used with 4x and 10x objectives. When recording video, the camera produces 30 fps at maximum resolution: the footage is high quality and motion is reproduced faithfully, without “gaps” between frames. The camera can be used to record research photos and videos, display images on a screen, and focus the optical system. The device is equipped with a Wi-Fi interface for transferring data to external devices.
The nosepiece has slots for 5 objectives. It is installed “inward-facing”: the working objective is closest to the user, while the other objectives point in the opposite direction. This position leaves plenty of space in front of the user, which can be used to manipulate the sample. The microscope is equipped with four plan achromatic objectives with different magnifications; the user can fill the fifth slot according to their needs. The parfocal distance is 60 mm. The slot above the nosepiece is designed to accommodate the analyzer when working with polarized light.
The nosepiece is coded: the user sets the light intensity for each objective once, and then, when the nosepiece is rotated, the illumination is adjusted automatically. This feature makes working with the microscope faster and more convenient: each objective transmits light differently depending on its magnification. When objectives are changed, the light intensity in the eyepiece changes significantly and must be adjusted each time. In addition, changes in light brightness tire the eyes. The coded nosepiece saves time and effort.
Focusing is performed using the coarse and fine adjustment knobs, which are located on the same axis. Coarse adjustment is performed with the handle on the left, while fine adjustment handles are located on both sides. The tension of the coarse focus movement can be adjusted using the special adjustment ring on the left.
The stage has no positioning rack, which makes the design more ergonomic. The sample moves across the stage surface using a belt-drive mechanism. The specimen holder is initially secured to the stage with two screws, but can be quickly removed for manual scanning. The stage is controlled by a long handle: the user can comfortably keep their hands on the table while manipulating it.
The condenser beneath the stage controls sample illumination using an iris diaphragm. To make adjustment easier, the condenser on this microscope has markings indicating objective magnification, and its ring has a pointer set to the marking corresponding to the selected objective. As a result, the image is clear and high-contrast. When conducting studies using darkfield or phase-contrast methods, the corresponding sliders are installed in a slot on the condenser.
The light source in the microscope is a 3 W LED with a stable color temperature. The LEDs have a service life of 50000 hours. The microscope is equipped with Köhler illumination, which provides uniform illumination of the object across the entire field of view. The objectives operate at maximum resolution, and dust or other foreign objects do not enter the field of view.
The operating parameters are displayed on the LCD screen integrated into the microscope base. It is possible to view the selected objective magnification, illuminator brightness and operating mode, and to set the automatic shut-off time. Adjustments are made using two handles.
The microscope's design has been carefully thought out to ensure comfortable use. It has a special carrying handle, and the power cord is concealed, making it safe and convenient to use and store. The microscope can be supplemented with the necessary accessories to expand its functionality: eyepieces, components for optional research methods, and a calibration slide for measuring objects.
