The Welch Allyn sphygmomanometer, featuring gear-free, shock-resistant DuraShock technology, offers significant practical advantages over traditional geared sphygmomanometers. These advantages are especially valuable in the fast-paced reality of medical environments, where instruments may be handled roughly or dropped.
Thanks to DuraShock technology, Welch Allyn sphygmomanometers:
- maintain their calibration longer than traditional geared sphygmomanometers, thereby ensuring more accurate measurements.
- do not need to be replaced as often as traditional geared sphygmomanometers, thus saving costs in the long term.
- feature the only gauge that meets the AAMI (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation) shock-resistance specification: it can withstand a drop onto a hard surface from a height of 76 cm without any change in calibration.
The DS66 features a trigger for gradual air release and an ergonomic design with soft-material inserts to maximize comfort during use.
In a traditional aneroid sphygmomanometer, several delicate gears and springs convert and amplify the vertical movement of the pinion into rotational movement to turn the pointer. Gear-free DuraShock technology uses a single coil spring to convert the vertical movement of the pinion directly into rotational movement of the pointer without the aid of multistage gears.
By creating a gear-free system, Welch Allyn has developed a gauge with fewer moving parts that is shock-resistant and lighter than traditional gauges.
Until now, accidentally dropping a sphygmomanometer required it to be recalibrated or replaced.
DuraShock, however, can be dropped from a height of 76 cm onto a hard surface while maintaining its accuracy, and it is the only gauge that meets the AAMI shock-resistance specification
(Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation).
