Philips DreamStation CPAP Pro works by providing continuous positive pressure on the airway in the upper airway via a CPAP mask to prevent the airway from closing during sleep.

Typically, CPAP machines start with a low initial pressure which then slowly increases to the specified treatment pressure over a predetermined time (Ramp) which is approximately the time it takes to fall asleep. When the machine reaches the treatment pressure, it stays there for the rest of the sleep period. The Ramp button can be pressed at any time during operation to reduce airflow to the initial initial pressure.
