The BOWIE & DICK test is a physical test that makes it possible to verify the penetration of steam into porous materials. A standardized “test pack” compliant with the technical standards currently in force is used for the test. The test must be passed by all autoclaves that claim to be capable of sterilizing porous loads, such as gauze, bandages, gowns and fabrics in general.
