The Green Mussel (Perna canaliculus Gmelin), also known as the New Zealand Green Mussel, is a bivalve mollusk belonging to the family Mytilidae. Unlike its black "colleagues", it does not live on the surface of the water, it has only one adductor muscle (the posterior one), a green shell and larger size than the mussels usually served in our restaurants. It can reach up to 24 cm in length and feeds on various types of phytoplankton that it obtains by filtering seawater through its gills.
It lives deep along the warm central and northern coasts of New Zealand either spontaneously or farmed, and its presence on the surface is limited by its inability to survive exposure to air. It reflects the characteristics of the rich and organic waters of the New Zealand coasts where it lives: it has high quality nutrients.
It is mainly used to support joint function due to its content of glucosaminoglycans, omega-3 fatty acids, minerals and amino acids.
It is also rich in vitamin A which contributes to the maintenance of healthy skin and good visual function, vitamin B12 to support the functioning of the nervous system and vitamin C with an antioxidant action to support immune functions.
HOW TO USE ~ Dogs
Carefully mix the recommended amount with your favorite food. A preventive dissolution of the powder in a little water or broth is possible.
Small sizes (≤ 10 kg): 1/4 scoop (2.5 g) per day.
Medium sizes (11-25 kg): 1/2 scoop (5 g) per day.
Large sizes (≥ 26 kg): 3/4 scoop (7.5 g) per day.
