Prontosan Wound Gel by B. Braun is a gel for cleansing chronic wounds based on Polyhexanide (PHMB) and Propyl-Betaine that helps reduce the formation of bacterial biofilm by disaggregating the mucopolysaccharide matrix synthesized by the bacterial colonies present on the wound bed.

The density of the gel formulation allows a fair stability in the wound bed and helps to maintain the right humid environment.

Prontosan Wound Gel is particularly suitable in case of burns as it helps to maintain bacterial colonization at reduced levels, keeps the wound hydrated and minimizes trauma at dressing changes, considerably reducing pain and the consequent need for supportive analgesic therapy.

The activity of Prontosan Wound Gel is determined by the characteristics of several components:
- The surfactant contained disaggregates the bacterial biofilm and cleanses the lesion
- Hydroxyethyl-cellulose gives the right viscosity to keep the product adhered to the wound bed
- Glycerol contributes to the maintenance of the humid environment by moisturizing the lesion
- Polyaminopropyl-biguanide allows the solution to be stable for 8 weeks after opening the bottle

For cleansing, moisturizing and disinfecting:
- Acute infected and uninfected injuries: traumatic injuries such as lacerations, abrasions or cut wounds (if a suture is indicated, it will need to be applied after surgery)
- Chronic infected and uninfected lesions (especially lesions with dissection and difficult to access) including arterial and venous ulcers, diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers
- Post-surgical injuries
- Thermal, chemical and post-radiotherapy burns (1st and 2nd degree burns)
-Fistulas

Composition per 100 gr.:
- Polyaminopropyl-biguanide (Polyhexanide) (20% weight by weight) at 0.1%: 0.50 gr.
- Undecylene-amidopropylbetaine (30% weight by weight) at 0.1%: 0.35 gr.
- Hydroxyethyl-cellulose: 1.80 gr.
- Glycerol (99%) : 8.60 gr.
- Purified water: 88.75 gr.
