Ethicon Prolene sutures are non-absorbable, sterile, synthetic sutures made of propylene. The thread is dyed blue for improved visibility.

These sutures are ideal for suturing and ligating vessels and soft tissues when a non-absorbable material is required. They are particularly indicated in cardiovascular, plastic, and ophthalmic surgery.

Used for over 40 years in the cardiovascular field, Prolene sutures offer controlled linear elongation and high tensile strength. The extrusion process ensures uniformity of gauge and smoothness.

Ethicon Prolene sutures cause minimal tissue reaction, followed by gradual encapsulation in connective tissue. They are not absorbed or degraded by tissue enzymes.

Because Prolene is monofilament, it reduces the risk of infection and is effective in contaminated or infected wounds, minimizing sinus formation and suture extrusion. Its lack of tissue adhesion allows for the use of the pull-out technique for suture extraction.
