Ethicon Seta sutures, made of non-absorbable natural silk, are indicated for suturing and ligation of vessels and soft tissues, including use in cardiovascular, plastic and ophthalmic surgery.

Silk causes an acute inflammatory reaction in the tissue, followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by connective tissue fibers. Although it is a non-absorbable suture, silk fibers degrade in vivo, gradually losing tensile strength over time.
Because of the gradual loss of tensile strength that can occur over extended periods of time in vivo, silk should not be used where permanent tensile strength is required.

The sutures are subjected to the Perma Hand dewaxing process and colored black with a special wax blend.
The exclusive Perma-Hand manufacturing process (dewaxing the raw thread before braiding) produces a truly refined suture and allows for a uniform gauge. The compact braiding gives the thread high strength and excellent handling, superior to any other suture material.
