The eyepiece with graduated scale is used for measuring the size of samples and their structure in linear units: millimeters or microns. The eyepiece is mounted in place of a standard 10x eyepiece. The scale is located in the plane of the field diaphragm with values equal to 0.1 mm. Eyepiece diameter: 30 mm.
Setting
Before measuring, you need to calibrate the eyepiece scale for each magnification of the objective that will be used. It requires a calibration slide – a tabletop micrometer with scale. For a stereoscopic microscope it is recommended to use a calibration slide with a scale division of 0.1 mm. You need to place the slide on the stage and then adjust the focus of the microscope to the scale. The eyepiece is rotated in the eyepiece tube until the scales of the slide and eyepiece are aligned parallel to each other.
Calculating the eyepiece scale value for each objective magnification
The calculation for each magnification of the objective is made according to the formula: E=TL/A, where: E is the division of the eyepiece scale T is the division of the micrometer scale of the stage marked on the micrometer of the stage (0.01 mm) L is the number of values on the micrometer of the stage A is the number of values of the eyepiece scale.
The resulting values of the eyescale division for each objective magnification should be recorded.
Calculating the True Linear Size of an Object
When measuring an object, you must first count the number of divisions of the eyescale covered by the object. The result will then be multiplied by the scale value previously calculated for the goal in use. The resulting value will be the true linear value of the object.
