LYOPLANT® is a pure collagen membrane from bovine pericardium type I, known for its low tendency to cause immunological reactions. To avoid potential risks of transmission of BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy), the following preventive measures are taken:
- The pericardium used comes from New Zealand (BSE-free country)
- The pericardium is still treated with caustic soda solution

The special cryophilization process ensures the elimination of
of all non-collagenous substances. LYOPLANT® is colonised by endogenous connective tissue cells, resulting in revitalisation: the loosely fibrous structure and the thickness of the material (= 0.83 mm) are important elements in this respect. Colonization by connective tissue cells begins after a few days, and complete revitalization occurs within a period of 1-3 months.
