Depending on the intended use, the bladder catheter has different shapes and sizes.

Gauge: The unit of measurement of the catheter is the Charriere or French scale (1ch = 1fr = 1/3 of a mm) and corresponds to the diameter of the catheter. Depending on the needs, the catheter size should be as small as possible, e.g. about 14-16 ch for clear urine, 18-20 ch for cloudy urine and 20-24 ch for patients with haematuria.
